SMS Consent Script

For QuoteDrop contractors collecting permission to text their customers.

This page documents the script we require contractors to follow when collecting consent to send SMS through QuoteDrop. It exists because U.S. law (TCPA) and mobile carriers require that consumers be informed about what they're agreeing to before any business sends them automated text messages.

Following this script keeps you compliant, protects your business from carrier complaints, and is required by QuoteDrop's Terms of Service §5.

You only need to do this once per customer per job. After you've collected consent and recorded it in QuoteDrop, you can send estimates, scheduling confirmations, and invoices for that job without re-asking.

When to use this

Use the script below before you add a customer's phone number to QuoteDrop and send them their first text. It works in person, on a phone call, or in a written exchange — pick whichever fits how you're already talking to the customer.

Consent script

Read this to your customer (or copy it into a text/email if you're confirming in writing):

“Before we wrap up, I'd like to send you a few text messages about this job — your estimate, an appointment reminder when we schedule, and the invoice when we're done. They'd come from [Your Business Name].”

“Message frequency varies depending on the job, but you'd typically get a handful of texts over the course of us working together. Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile plan.”

“You can reply STOP at any time to opt out, or HELP for help if you have questions. You can read the privacy policy at quotedrop.ai/privacy.”

“Is it okay if I text you at the number I've got? You can absolutely say no — we can stick to email or phone calls if you'd prefer.”

If the customer says yes, you have consent and can move on to recording it in QuoteDrop. If they say no, do not enter their phone number into QuoteDrop. You can still send them their estimate and invoice by email.

If you're using this in writing rather than verbally, ask the customer to reply YES to confirm and save their reply (a screenshot is fine) for your records.

After you have consent — record it in QuoteDrop

QuoteDrop requires you to attest, in-app, that you've collected consent before any SMS will send:

  1. Build the estimate as normal and choose SMS or Both as the delivery method.
  2. The Send screen will show a checkbox: “I have [Customer]'s permission to text them about this job.”
  3. Check it. The Send button activates.
  4. Tap Send Now.

QuoteDrop records the timestamp of your attestation on the estimate. Future invoice and reminder texts for the same job inherit that consent — you won't be asked again unless you change the customer's phone number, in which case the attestation resets and you'll be asked to confirm again for the new number.

What QuoteDrop does to honor consent

  • STOP replies are honored automatically by our SMS carrier. The customer is unsubscribed at the carrier level instantly.
  • HELP replies receive an automatic response identifying the sending business.
  • All SMS through QuoteDrop are strictly transactional — estimate, scheduling, invoice, job completion. We do not send marketing SMS.
  • We never share, sell, or transfer mobile phone numbers or opt-in information to third parties for marketing — see Privacy Policy §4(d).
